You just need to call a different play, and use one of the following strategies to keep you on track with your favorite store and salesperson, which will lead you to that perfect ring without breaking the bank.

This isn't my favorite answer, but it's been done, and it is the stuff of legend. (And don't forget, many independent jewelry stores offer financing options that can help you with the extra spend if you decide you'd like to take that route.)

Remember, communication is key, so talk openly with your trusted sales associate about your budget constraints. They're there to help you out, so don't be shy. Discuss your price range and ask them to find similar rings that won't drain your bank account. Pro's know their stuff and in most cases they can work some magic to find that perfect compromise.

Oh, and have you heard about the diamond solitaire option? It's a classic choice, and it's a great way to go if you have to have the ring that is, temporarily, out of your price range. Pick a center diamond that matches your original ring idea, and set it in a solitaire. You'll be proposing with a timeless beauty that can be later transferred to its permanent home in the "dream ring."
